Strategic meetings during the 65th Annual Meeting of IDB Board of Governors
FONPLATA participated in the 65th Annual Meeting of the IDB Board of Governors and 39th Annual Meeting of the IDB Invest Board of Governors, held from March 26 to 30 in Santiago, Chile, where important strategic discussions were conducted to boost development and integration in the region.
The delegation was led by the Bank’s Executive President, Luciana Botafogo, and included the Vice President of Strategic Development, Viviana González Bogarín; the Head of the Strategic Development Division, Leonardo Chagas; and the Senior Technical Cooperation Specialist, José Carlos Lupo. Key meetings were held with the representatives of Austria, Finland, Norway, Japan, Portugal, Colombia, and Peru, exploring new opportunities for cooperation.
Additionally, the delegation held discussions with representatives from FONPLATA’s member countries —Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay— to review the status of ongoing projects and determine the next steps for joint investments.
The Bank's main interest is to explore new forms of collaboration through the structuring of trust funds, co-financing, and lines of credit. Furthermore, agreements were reached to continue deepening the joint work with the following current allies:
- OPEC Fund: the actions taken within the framework of the MoU signed in 2022 to enhance economic development in our region.
- European Investment Bank (EIB): evaluation of joint initiatives and new opportunities for collaboration.
- Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB): identification of concrete initiatives for joint work in project financing in the region.
- IDB Management – Southern Cone: revision of the possibility of starting the activation process of a second stage of the CCLIP (Conditional Credit Line for Investment Projects) initiative, a financial instrument focused on streamlining the loan preparation and approval process.
Finally, the key milestone of this week was the signing of a Cooperation Framework with the IDB, which will allow FONPLATA to expand financing, exchange strategic knowledge, and develop innovative financial instruments: another step towards strengthening the sustainable and inclusive growth of member countries and the region.
