On  December 9, 2024, the Brazilian Ministry of Planning and Budget (MPO), the World Bank (WB), IDB, CAF — Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, FONPLATA, and the French Development Agency (AFD) signed, in Brasilia, a joint declaration to promote women's empowerment and gender equality in internationally funded projects.

The declaration demonstrates the signatory institutions' acknowledgement of the importance of women's empowerment and gender equality for poverty reduction and sustainable development, and reaffirms their international commitments in this area, such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goal number 5.

One of the objectives is  the incorporation of gender perspective in the design, execution, and evaluation of projects funded with international resources, as well as the establishment of mechanisms to promote women's equal access to resources and benefits.

The declaration also establishes the formalization and expansion of existing cooperation initiatives through strategic alliances and the sharing of data, analyses, best practices, and lessons learned to promote gender equality in development financing processes.

Additionally, it establishes support for training and capacity building programs that strengthen the role of women in economic and financial processes, increasing their participation in leadership positions in both the public and private sectors.

The declaration was signed by MPO's Secretary of International Affairs and Development, Renata Vargas Amaral; FONPLATA's Vice President of Operations and Countries, Eliana Dam; AFD's Regional Director, Dominique Hautbergue; WB's Country Director for Brazil, Johannes Zutt; IDB's Country Representative in Brazil, Annette Bettina Killmer; and CAF's Representative in Brazil, Estefanía Laterza.
