Progress in works at the San Bernardo Hospital in Salta, Argentina
Within the scope of the ARG 49 project: “Expansion and Repurposing of the San Bernardo Hospital, Province of Salta”, funded by FONPLATA, the administrative block of the San Bernardo Hospital was inaugurated in the city of Salta, Argentina. The works encompass the Critical Care and High Complexity services and aim at strengthening the capacity of the public health system.
The project currently underway includes the construction of three new buildings, covering a total area of more than 11,000 square meters, which will be integrated into the existing hospital through internal connections. In addition, adjoining outdoor areas of approximately 4,000 square meters will be renovated to be used for ambulance parking and technical access for suppliers and staff.
The inauguration of the administrative block represents 25% of the total works and is one of the most important milestones. The 2,100-square-meters building includes offices for customer service, administrative and management areas (Treasury, Accounting, Human Resources, Legal Advice, and Information Technology), as well as teaching and research areas, such as classrooms and an auditorium for 115 people, which will be used for the training of resident physicians. The project will be completed with the incorporation of specific furniture —currently in the delivery process— and computer equipment.
It is expected that, once the project is completed, the improvements will contribute to reducing the patients’ length of stay, waiting time for surgical interventions and, as a consequence, the risk of intra-hospital infections, benefiting not only the population of the province of Salta, but also its whole area of influence.
