Mayors’ Forum: Sustainable Cities in Brazil
FONPLATA — Development Bank and LAIF – Latin America Investment Facility will hold the “Mayors' Forum: Sustainable Cities” in Brasilia, on March 15 and 16, aiming at sharing best practices in sustainable development, promoting the transfer and adaptation of technologies and knowledge applied to climate funding issues, as well as women's leadership in the region's development.
The event, sponsored by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the French Development Agency (AFD), will be attended by ministers, mayors, representatives and executives of international organizations, development agencies, academics, and experts.
During the first day, regional and international speakers, representatives of development agencies and multilateral banks will discuss best practices for sustainable urban development in medium-sized Brazilian cities, with the presentation of success stories from the municipalities of Itajaí, Vila Velha, and Recife. Authorities from the Brazilian federal government will present an update on the regulations of the municipalities' prioritization of indebtedness. The limits of sectoral guarantees and priorities for international funding of subnational governments, promoted by the Brazilian Ministry of Planning, will also be discussed, along with the possible changes in the criteria for the analysis of projects in resolutions and regulations of COFIEX (External Financing Commission of Brazil).
The second day will focus on Sustainable Urban Development, with panels of specialists from development agencies who will discuss the promotion of urban sustainability and the importance of measuring climate risks in sustainable projects. Likewise, municipal authorities and international experts will discuss data management issues of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in integration projects. By the end of the day, the focus will be on Gender and Diversity, to discuss the importance of incorporating gender perspective in the design and planning of public works, so that cities are inclusive for the benefit of all.
