FONPLATA supports creative and cultural tourism proposal for the economic recovery of the Bolivian Department of Chuquisaca

FONPLATA - Dirección del Bicentenario

As part of Bolivia's Bicentennial celebrations, the Autonomous Departmental Government of Chuquisaca promotes an interesting proposal to boost the local economy through non-traditional sectors, such as cultural and creative tourism, with the support of non-reimbursable technical cooperation from FONPLATA.

The initiative “Promoting the Sustainable Tourism Ecosystem of Sucre” seeks to diversify the economy of Chuquisaca, traditionally centered on the public sector and services, by promoting orange economy as a development engine to generate employment, strengthen cultural identity, and project the city of Sucre as a high heritage value, innovative, and sustainable tourist destination.

The project involves the development and consolidation of three cultural products:

· Art on the rooftops, turning the colonial terraces of the historic center into stages for art and cultural expression;

· Café dialogues, transforming traditional cafés into venues to discuss history, identity, and development; and

· White Night in the White City, an event that boosts nightlife with art, music, gastronomy, and cultural tours.

The technical cooperation involves an investment of USD 75,000 and includes a cultural marketing strategy, communication campaigns, and the systematization of results to measure their economic and social impact.

Among the current achievements, the first editions of Art on the Rooftops and Café Dialogues stand out, with massive participation, as well as the kick-off of national and international promotional activities.

These initiatives seek not only to enrich the tourist offer, but also to foster people’s pride, promote entrepreneurship, and generate a virtuous circle between culture, tourism, and economic development.
