FONPLATA

The 53rd edition of the National Sanitation Congress, organized by the Associação Nacional dos Serviços Municipais de Saneamento (ASSEMAE), was held in the state of Goiás from June 22 to 27, 2025. The event aimed at promoting debate on basic sanitation public policies and facilitating the exchange of technical knowledge among municipalities, consolidating itself as a key space for strengthening the sector in Brazil and the region. FONPLATA accompanied the activities and participated in two high-level technical panels.

In the first panel, project specialist André Sampaio presented the institutional approach for the upcoming COP30, highlighting the strategic role of water security in the climate agenda, as well as the green financing opportunities available for projects in the sector. In the second panel, he addressed access to international financing for municipal sanitation projects, emphasizing both the opportunities and the challenges faced by local governments in the articulation with multilateral banks.

Municipal and state authorities attended the event, whose program included thematic panels, presentations of technical papers, technological exhibitions, and the traditional Basic Sanitation Show, which this year had more than fifty stands.

The congress was supported by the Fundação Nacional de Saúde (FUNASA) and the Federal Government of Brazil, and FONPLATA participated as a sponsor, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development and the improvement of basic infrastructure in member countries.
