President Arce enacted the law approving the loan for the improvement and enlargement of the Senkata-La Apacheta section of the La Paz-Oruro dual carriageway
This Monday, March 25, at the Casa Grande del Pueblo (La Paz, Bolivia), President Luis Arce enacted the law approving the loan for the improvement and enlargement of the Senkata-La Apacheta section. The ceremony was attended by national and local authorities from the beneficiary areas and by Luciana Botafogo, Executive President of FONPLATA, and Mariana Prado, Executive Vice President.
President Luis Arce symbolically handed over to Eduardo Quispe, representative of the El Alto Neighborhood Councils Federation (Fejuve), the law that enables the construction of eight lanes in the referred section and that involves a total investment of USD 57.25 million to be financed by the Bank.
Arce also thanked FONPLATA for its support in this operation and highlighted the application of a “suspensive” clause, which made it possible to tender the works during the approval process in the Legislative Assembly, to speed up the project's schedule. "It is imperative to guarantee not only the transit and time and money saving, but above all to protect the lives of Bolivians who circulate in this sector", stated the President.
Luciana Botafogo said that, as the Bank of Mercosur, it is of great importance for FONPLATA to support the demands of its member countries, and pointed out the relevance of this work to contribute to the development of Bolivia: “A few months ago we met the neighborhood councils and discussed the importance of this road for the road safety of the neighbors of El Alto, and specially for everything related to transportation, production, improvement of employment generation, of income, and of the quality of life of the entire population.”
The planned works will improve capacity of the road and access to it by building more lanes and creating a road connection separate from the urban area. This will promote safer traffic flow for both drivers and pedestrians, reducing the incidence of accidents, with a direct positive impact on the quality of life of more than 1.2 million inhabitants of El Alto and indirectly on the entire department of La Paz.
