FONPLATA participates in the First Resilient Green Cities Meeting
The Brazilian Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, in coordination with the Ministries of Cities and of Science, Technology, and Innovation, organized the First Meeting of the Resilient Green Cities, held on March 27 and 28, 2025, in Brasilia.
The topic of the meeting was “Advancing the CHAMP Agenda: from Federalism to Climate Finance on the Road to COP30”. Its objective was to strengthen collaboration among subnational governments —represented by governors and mayors— and to promote environmental public policies in preparation for COP30.
The Bank was represented by Project Specialist André Sampaio, who participated in the panel: Unlocking Resources for Sustainable Cities: The Role of Funds and Financial Institutions in Subnational Climate Funding. In his remarks, Sampaio highlighted that FONPLATA currently has 27 ongoing operations in Brazil, totaling USD 1 billion.
He emphasized the Banks’s commitment to supporting governments in the implementation of local projects that tackle climate change, sustainability, and sustainable urban development. He highlighted the Bank’s comprehensive and close engagement throughout the process, from planning to achieving the intended objectives. Additionally, he noted FONPLATA's promotion of gender inclusion and the strengthening of women's leadership in urban planning through the Green and Gender & Youth credit lines, which offer differentiated rates for projects addressing these priorities.
The activity was also attended by representatives of international organizations, the federal government, subnational governments, municipal entities, NGOs, academic and research institutions, social movements, and funding agencies.
