FONPLATA wins international impact award for green and blue credit line

CDP

FONPLATA – Development Bank has received the Impact Award from Italy’s POLIMI Graduate School of Management, in partnership with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), for a pioneering credit line that is funding climate-resilient infrastructure across Brazil.

The award ceremony took place in Milan, Italy, during a high-level event organized by the POLIMI Graduate School of Management, with CDP as its main partner. The POLIMI Impact Award highlights projects with outstanding social and environmental impact. A dedicated technical-scientific committee selected the winning initiatives based on their alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), innovation, and measurable outcomes.

The CDP’s awarded credit line, signed in May 2024 for a total of USD 30 million, is part of FONPLATA’s Sustainable Debt Framework, and helped to mobilize a total of USD 235 million, including USD 76.5 million from local funds. These resources are supporting seven impactful projects – three green and four blue – across Brazil, with a strong focus on climate resilience, sustainable infrastructure, and improved living conditions.

The green projects focus on expanding low-carbon urban mobility in Sorocaba, creating ecological corridors and public parks in Hortolândia,  and enhancing climate resilience in Criciúma, reaching nearly one million people with an improved urban environment.

The blue projects aim to reduce flooding and enhance urban resilience in Cascavel and Atibaia and improve water and sanitation infrastructure in Brusque and Belém, which will benefit a population of 252,000.

POLIMI and CDP shortlisted the credit line as one of the most impactful initiatives financed last year aligning with multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including those related to climate action, sustainable cities, clean water and sanitation, and inclusive economic growth. All projects are implemented by public institutions and will benefit thousands of people through better infrastructure, environmental preservation, and improved access to essential services.

"We are honored to receive this award, which reflects our strong commitment to sustainable development and regional integration," said Eliana Dam, Vice President of Country and Operations of FONPLATA. "This recognition validates our efforts to deliver tangible, local impact through innovative financing mechanisms, and we are especially grateful to CDP for their partnership and shared vision in making these projects possible."
