FONPLATA Achieves Historical Rating Milestone Following Moody’s Upgrade

FONPLATA

Moody’s Ratings has upgraded FONPLATA’s long-term credit rating from A2 to A1 with a stable outlook, marking a significant milestone in the Bank’s history. The upgrade follows the A+ rating assigned by S&P Global Ratings at the end of 2025 and reflects the Bank’s continued institutional, financial, and strategic strengthening across the region.

Moody’s decision is supported by several factors that highlight FONPLATA’s solid performance and its growing capacity to advance its member countries' development.

A central element in the upgrade is the approval of FONPLATA’s new capital increase, which demonstrates strong support from shareholder countries and reinforces the Bank’s ability to expand operations and respond to rising financing needs in the region.

Moody’s also underscores the consolidation of FONPLATA’s role as a strategic development partner. The capital increase enhances the Bank’s financing capacity and creates conditions for the incorporation of new members. Among other factors, the agency highlights the Exposure Exchange Agreement (EEA) with BCIE—signed in November 2025—as evidence of greater international recognition and increasing institutional sophistication.

The rating agency further emphasizes FONPLATA’s solid financial position, supported by high solvency, liquidity, and asset quality. The Bank maintains a strong capital ratio and continues to report zero non-performing loans, reflecting prudent risk management and a healthy portfolio.

Moody’s also considered the evolution of FONPLATA’s funding profile. In recent years, the Bank has advanced in diversifying its funding sources, expanding access to different markets, currencies, instruments, and maturities. This strategy strengthens financial flexibility and enables sustainable support for the growth of its portfolio and operations.

“The upgrade granted by Moody’s, combined with the recent rating from S&P, confirms the financial strength that FONPLATA has built together with its member countries. This recognition enhances our ability to mobilize resources for projects that promote sustainable development, regional integration, and improved quality of life,” emphasized Vice President of Finance Matias Mednik.

“This recognition also reflects the strength of our assets, our solid capital base, and our prudent liquidity management—supported by an increasingly diversified funding strategy. In practical terms: we are opening new markets, accessing resources on better terms, and expanding competitive financing opportunities for our member countries. In doing so, we continue to establish ourselves as a leader in development and as a bank of growing importance to the region,” he added.

With this milestone, FONPLATA has reached the highest credit rating in its history, reaffirming its position as a reliable regional development bank poised to expand its impact in Latin America.
