FONPLATA Executes Record USD 300 Million Transaction and Reaches 80% of its 2026 Funding Plan
FONPLATA – Development Bank on August 3 successfully completed a USD 300 million transaction under its Medium-Term Note (MTN) Program, marking the largest capital markets transaction undertaken by the institution since its inaugural market issuance in 2019.
The transaction comprised two U.S. dollar-denominated floating-rate notes with maturities of 3 years and 5.5 years, due in August 2029 and February 2032, respectively. The USD 50 million 3-year note will pay a coupon of SOFR + 85 basis points, while the USD 250 million 5.5-year note will pay SOFR + 113 basis points. In both cases, FONPLATA achieved its tightest spreads to date for the respective maturities since it began issuing bonds in the international capital markets, reflecting the strengthening of its credit profile and growing investor confidence.
The transaction also marks a new milestone for FONPLATA's MTN Program, bringing the total number of series issued under the program to twenty since its launch in November 2024, less than two years ago. During this period, the Bank has raised the equivalent of USD 1.25 billion across five currencies, establishing the program as FONPLATA's primary platform for accessing the international capital markets.
This transaction also represents further progress in the execution of FONPLATA's 2026 Funding Plan, with total funding raised year-to-date reaching USD 885 million, of which more than 95% has been sourced from the capital markets. This represents approximately 80% of the Bank's updated funding requirements for 2026. The current funding plan provides flexibility to raise up to an additional USD 230 million during the remainder of the year, subject to the Bank's financing needs and prevailing market conditions.
This transaction reaffirms FONPLATA's ability to access the international capital markets on a regular basis and further diversify its funding sources, strengthening its role in mobilizing resources for projects and initiatives that promote sustainable development and regional integration across its member countries.
