Luciana Botafogo Signs Contracts to Support Development in Brazil

FONPLATA

FONPLATA’s Ad Interim Executive President, Luciana Botafogo, has signed contracts to set in motion integral sustainable development projects in the cities of Sorocaba and Dourados.

The highest authorities representing both cities attended the event held at the Development Bank’s liaison office in Brasilia, namely, the Mayor of Sorocaba, Rodrigo Maganhato, and the Mayor of Dourados, Alan Guedes.

Thus, FONPLATA continues to show its commitment both to the Federative Republic of Brazil and to the other countries in the region to bring development closer to the people.

Sustainable Development in Sorocaba

The signing that took place in Brasilia activates the execution of the “Sorocaba Mobility and Urban Development Program”. The program aims at fostering improvements to the basic infrastructure of the municipality located in the state of São Paulo, with the goal of decreasing commute times when using public and private transportation and increasing road safety, while also helping to reduce flooding.

This externally financed investment is part of the strategic alliance between FONPLATA and the New Development Bank (NDB) and adds up to a total of USD 56 million, of which USD 16 million will be provided by FONPLATA and USD 40 million by NDB.

The program will enable the expansion of the social, environmental, and cultural development capabilities of the city, one of Brazil’s main industrial hubs, as it is located within the metropolitan region of the city of São Paulo.

The Sorocaba Municipal Government will oversee the works, which will contribute to meeting two of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals: “Sustainable Cities and Communities” (SDG 11) and “Climate Action” (SDG 13).

Integral Development in Dourados

As for this municipality located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, the contract signed in Brasilia sets in motion the “Dourados Development Program”. The program aims at fostering improvements to the quality of life of the local population by means of sanitation, environmental, mobility and urban development, administrative infrastructure, and institutional strengthening actions.

Located in the southern-central part of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Dourados is the main urban center in its surrounding geographic region, as it provides the necessary structure to meet immediate demands, such as procurement of durable and non-durable consumer goods, healthcare and educational services, employment, and provision of public services.

The investment amounts to USD 50 million, of which USD 40 million will be financed by FONPLATA and USD 10 million by the local government.

The Dourados Municipal Government will be in charge of the works, which will contribute to meeting two of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals: “Sustainable Cities and Communities” (SDG 11) and “Responsible Consumption and Production” (SDG 12).
