FONPLATA Strengthens Partnerships and Cooperation During the IDB Annual Meetings
The FONPLATA delegation, led by Executive President Luciana Botafogo, participated in the IDB Group Annual Meetings held March 11–14 in Asunción, where it engaged in a series of meetings with international organizations and government representatives to strengthen cooperation and explore new opportunities for collaboration.
Throughout the week, the delegation met with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) President, Ilan Goldfajn, and the Regional General Manager for Southern Cone Countries, Morgan Doyle, to discuss shared priorities, such as the second phase of the Conditional Credit Line for Investment Projects (CCLIP),following the successful execution of the first USD 100 million allocation by FONPLATA.
The meeting also reviewed the progress on the ILAT initiative, a joint effort with the IDB and CAF to promote infrastructure, trade facilitation, and knowledge generation for regional integration. Discussions also covered FONPLATA’s capital increase process, the incorporation of new member countries, and opportunities to deepen collaboration with IDB Invest, particularly in private sector financing.
Executive President Botafogo also met with Gisela Sánchez, President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), to exchange views on capital optimization, including the Exposure Exchange Agreement (EEA) signed by both institutions in 2025.
The delegation held additional meetings with the French Development Agency (AFD) to review the implementation of co-financed projects and identify new areas for cooperation, as well as with the Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE).
In line with efforts to expand the Bank’s membership base, FONPLATA also met with representatives from the governments of Chile, Panama, and Colombia.
Furthermore, a new USD-50 million financing facility was signed with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) to support water and sanitation projects in the Amazon. The initiative aligns with priorities emerging from COP30 in Belém, translating commitments on climate resilience, inclusion, and ecosystem protection into concrete actions that benefit Amazonian communities.
FONPLATA’s participation in these forums reaffirms its commitment to strengthening cooperation among development banks, fostering institutional synergies, and expanding financing for sustainable development in the region.
