FONPLATA boosts regional integration in the Capricorn Corridor and sustainable territorial development in Salta, Argentina

On July 31, the Executive Board of Directors approved a USD 100-million operation with sovereign guarantee from the Argentine Republic, to finance the “Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor Territorial Integration and Sustainable Development Program” in the Province of Salta.

The project aims to promote the development of northwestern Argentina through strategic investments in road infrastructure, drinking water and sanitation in areas of high social and climate vulnerability. The operation has three main components:

· Infrastructure and regional integration works, including the paving of key sections of National Route No. 51; the construction of the bypass to the town of Campo Quijano; the repaving of Provincial Route No. 24; and water and sanitation works in towns located in the Puna region, such as Tolar Grande, Salar de Pocitos, Olacapato, Santa Rosa de los Pastos Grandes, and San Antonio de los Cobres.

· Institutional strengthening and adaptive management, through the modernization of logistics checkpoints, road resilience studies in the face of climate change, and gender-focused actions, including training and promotion of female participation in strategic sectors.

· Management, assessment, and auditing to ensure the efficient and transparent execution of the program.

The program will directly benefit more than 30,000 people in rural communities in the Puna region of Salta, and indirectly, the province's 1.44 million inhabitants. It will also help consolidate connectivity in the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor, which is key to physical integration between Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Chile.

The project is part of FONPLATA's Regional Integration and MERCOSUR Support Line, which seeks to consolidate regional connectivity, social inclusion, and territorial equity for its member countries.
